Asma Alomari is from Richmond, Virginia, – unceded Powhatan land. Asma moved to Fairbanks in 2022 to work with the Alaska Space Grant Program to research the relationship between underrepresented students and STEM programs at UAF. After experiencing the long and cold winter for the first time, they decided to give the state another year. Asma has previously worked in digital engagement, youth and senior advocacy, outdoor education, and local policy in Virginia’s nonprofit sector. Asma holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender and Women’s Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Asma is excited to be a part of the greater Anchorage area. Outside of work, Asma loves cooking and considers making bellies full and warm one of the world’s greatest pleasures. Since arriving in Alaska, they have learned to kayak and is excited to travel more by water.
