Friends of Dick Proenneke and Lake Clark National Park is dedicated to the preservation of Dick Proenneke’s legacy and protection of the wilderness characteristics of Twin Lakes and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve where Dick lived for 31 years in his 11 by 15-foot log cabin. The main purpose of this fund is to raise money for purchasing from willing sellers private land holdings within Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.

Currently, the Friends need $ 100,000 to acquire a wonderful 1.09-acre private parcel overlooking Upper Twin Lake approximately 1,200 feet west of Dick’s cabin. This knoll, the site of “the Boss Hunter’s Cabin” mentioned in Dick’s book, One Man’s Wilderness, has one of the most outstanding views in the entire National Park system. The Friends have signed an exclusive contract to purchase the land ensuring that it will not be commercially developed. Every $ 2.10 donated purchases a square foot of the wilderness that Dick so relished.

Within the four million acres of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, there are 224 private parcels encompassing 193,711 acres. Donations to this fund will help acquire parklands with wilderness attributes when such lands within Lake Clark’s borders become available for sale.
