Two Social Justice Grant Programs Now Accepting Letters of Inquiry

Two exciting grant opportunities for progressive projects in Alaska will open Friday, December 1, 2017.

The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF) will accept Letters of Intent (LOI) for The Social Justice Fund for Alaska and the Alaska Native Social Justice Fund until 5:00 PM on Friday January 5, 2018. Those interested in applying are strongly encouraged to call ACF staff prior to submitting a LOI.

This is the second grant cycle for The Social Justice Fund for Alaska, following its pilot grant cycle in Spring 2017. The Social Justice Fund was created in 2015 when John Rubini and Clare Bertucio made a generous $1 million pledge to support organizations leading progressive and social justice work in Alaska. There will be $100,000 available for grantmaking in 2018.

This is the first grant cycle for the newly created Alaska Native Social Justice Fund, a grant program made possible through a grant from the Marguerite Casey Foundation. This grant program will support Alaska Native led organizations and communities in using their own voices to identify and address the most important social justice issues within their communities. There will be $140,000 available for grantmaking in 2018. A second grant cycle will be offered in 2019.

Both grant programs offer programmatic and sustainable core mission support for responsive and strategic collaborations that prioritize leadership development. These grant programs will help Alaskans to actively address systemic social justice issues within their communities and across the state. Both grant opportunities represent a focus on addressing progressive causes that provide measurable and equitable outcomes in equity in Alaskan communities.

Some of the groups that do the most important work in the social justice sector have difficulty raising funds because they are progressive in nature and politically challenging to support. The Alaska Community Foundation’s Social Justice Fund will support these groups and the progressive community, which can go a long way toward promoting a more just and collaborative community.
