Domestic Violence Shelter Renovation

Providing Help and Hope through Basic Needs

The Emmonak Women’s Shelter on the Yukon Delta is one of 17 shelters in Alaska providing refuge for victims of violence and abuse. Founded in 1978, it serves over 500 women and children a year from more than a dozen surrounding communities. Like many small shelters, however, Emmonak struggles to maintain necessary repairs and services. The Domestic Violence Shelter Renovation Project is tackling the devastating rates of abuse in our state by bolstering the most basic needs of victims – adequate shelter. With this partnership between ACF, the State of Alaska, Rasmuson Foundation, and others, Emmonak and 16 other shelters across Alaska are being renovated and can better provide help and hope for victims in need.
