39 Scholarships Awarded to Alaskan Students

Announcing the award of 39 academic scholarships to students across the state. Scholarships at The Alaska Community Foundation are established by passionate community members committed to helping Alaskans pursue their educational dreams.

Wow! I’m in shock! Thank you so very much for awarding me this scholarship, and for believing in me. It means so much! I cried tears of joy knowing that the financial burdens will be a bit lighter on my family!

Stephanie Leffel, inaugural scholarship recipient of the JJ Klein Scholarship

Joyce Klein established the JJ Klein Scholarship in honor of her late husband. Unfortunately, Joyce passed away shortly before the first $10,000 scholarship was awarded. Stephanie is currently attending the University of Alaska Anchorage and plans to become a Nurse and Dietitian.

Thank you very much. I can’t express my joy and happiness in words. I really appreciate your help and thanks to each and everyone who is involved in making this scholarship available.

Romal Safi, Returning Exchange Student Scholarship

Scholarships range in award size, from $500 to $20,000 with some scholarships providing multi-year support. Alaskans interested in making a lasting impact by supporting education establish scholarship funds that either support students attending a particular school or students majoring in a specific field of study. The Alaska Community Foundation provides administrative support, helps to develop scholarship guidelines, and ensures every scholarship awarded is in accordance with IRS requirements.
