A global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, #GivingTuesday is a unique effort that transforms how people participate in the giving season.
Anchorage Mayor Berkowitz has signed a proclamation declaring Tuesday, Dec. 1 (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) Giving Tuesday.
#GivingTuesday creates a moment around the holidays dedicated to giving.
This is similar to how Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with holiday shopping. On this day, members of the community are encouraged to give to an organization they care about by donating or volunteering in a way that is personally meaningful.
Joining to channel the generous spirit of Alaskans, a group of statewide nonprofits have partnered to celebrate #GivingTuesday using the hashtag #GivingTuesdayAK. Currently, more than 40 different Alaska organizations are registered as part of the #GivingTuesday campaign including:
Alaska Community Foundation
Alaska Geographic
Alaska Legal Services Corp.
Alaska Marine Conservation Council
Anchorage Opera
The Arc of Anchorage
Arctic Barnabas Ministries
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska
Birchwood Camp
Blood Bank of Alaska
Campfire Alaska
Girl Scouts of Alaska
Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation
Stone Soup Group
#GivingTuesday will inspire Alaskans to take collaborative action to improve their communities and give in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they care about. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners—nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
