The Alaska Community Foundation is pleased to announce that $46,736 in grant awards were made to help 12 Alaska nonprofits strengthen their ability to provide services in the state. The Strengthening Organizations Grant Program supports internal capacity building, which includes leadership development, organizational development, and program development for professional staff and board of directors.
This grant cycle, awardee projects ranged from strategic planning for the Kenai Peninsula Fair and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska, to development plans for the Downtown Soup Kitchen and Love, Inc. among many others.
We are so pleased to be able to grant funding to such worthy organizations as they seek to strengthen their internal capacities so that they can provide better services around the state. It’s an honor to support such important work in Alaska. –Katie St. John, Director of Programs & Grants
The Strengthening Organizations Program is unique in the funding it makes available to nonprofits, as it focuses on support areas often overlooked by traditional funders. This program awards capacity building grants up to $10,000, with typical awards ranging from $3,000-$5,000, to 501(c)(3) nonprofits or equivalent organizations, which may include tribes, schools, churches and local government agencies and programs. As was shared in a press release on December 1st, the Strengthening Awards Grant Program will be expanding and changing thanks to a new grant from Rasmuson Foundation. The program will now have a rolling deadline, with the intention of providing funding on a more flexible basis to needy organizations, as well as a broader base of eligible projects.
