Senior Staff Accountant
Sonja moved to Alaska at the age of two, growing up in Palmer where she enjoyed camping, hiking, and cross-country skiing with her family. She later attended Beloit College in Wisconsin, earning a degree in Anthropology and Museum Studies. After spending time exploring the world—including a two-year stint with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic—Sonja returned to Alaska, where she spent the next 25 years managing hotels in the tourism industry.
A lifelong “library nerd,” Sonja has been an active member of the Friends of the Library Beyond the Stacks fundraising committee since 2014. She enjoys unleashing her creativity by designing centerpieces and decorations that bring the annual theme to life.
Since 2018, Sonja has worked in Alaska’s nonprofit sector, where she combines her accounting expertise with a passion for making a positive impact in her community.
