Last weekend, Typhoon Merbok hit western Alaska with a devastating force unseen since 1974. The storm affected hundreds of miles of coastline, inflicting damage in every coastal region north of Bristol Bay and beyond the Bering Strait. It is heartbreaking to think of our fellow Alaskans’ hardships in the upcoming days, weeks, months, and years to the communities in Western Alaska.
In the spirit of connecting people who care with causes that matter, ACF rapidly established The Western Alaska Disaster Recovery Fund to address the immediate needs of communities in the affected areas. Your partnership in this effort is invaluable. As Alaskans, it is ingrained in our DNA to take care of our own. In times of need, it is inspiring to see our state tackle adversity head-on.

As a donor, you may have questions.
Q. What immediate needs will be addressed with these donations?
A. ACF will make an initial distribution of funds next week. This funding will be prioritized to support basic needs, such as shelter, food, water, and other necessities.
Q. How much of my donation will be used to help those in Western Alaska?
A. Rasmuson Foundation has generously volunteered to cover all fees related to this fund. That said, one hundred percent of your gift will go directly to support the recovery and relief efforts.
Q. How does ACF know where funds are needed if they do not have boots on the ground in the affected communities?
A. ACF will heavily rely on the recommendations of community leaders in affected areas. Through this partnership, the advisory committee will be able to distribute funds where the need is greatest.
