As the year comes to a close, please consider making a gift to a fund at the Alaska Community Foundation (ACF). We are here to make your charitable giving easy. To receive the best possible service and help ensure your donations to funds at ACF qualify for a charitable income tax deduction in the 2025 tax year, please keep this information in mind:
- Gifts of complex assets such as real estate, closely-held business interests or stock, and planned giving vehicles may require input from ACF’s Board, CEO, and CFO, and should be discussed with ACF staff as soon as possible for potential closure by the end of the calendar year.
- Gifts of mutual funds or special securities (tendered stock or restricted stock) should be initiated by Monday, December 1, 2025.
- Gifts of appreciated stock should be initiated by Friday, December 12, 2025.
- Wire transfers of cash must be initiated no later than Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
- Checks sent via private carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL must be physically received at ACF on or before Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
- Checks sent via the US Postal Service to ACF or Affiliates must be postmarked at a regional processing center* on or before Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Any checks postmarked after December 31, 2025, will be recorded as a gift made in 2026.
- Credit card gifts via the ACF online giving page may be made through 11:59 p.m. Alaska Standard Time, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at alaskacf.org/donate.
* Please note that beginning December 24, 2025, the U.S. Postal Service will apply postmarks at regional processing centers rather than at local drop-off locations. As a result, a postmark date may be later than the day a gift is placed in the mail. To ensure your mailed charitable contribution qualifies for the intended tax year, we encourage donors to mail gifts early or visit a USPS counter and hand your envelope directly to a postal clerk, requesting a dated mailing receipt or manual postmark. Online and in-person giving options may also provide added peace of mind for year-end gifts.
NOTE: Under IRS rules, gifts to a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) are not qualified charitable distributions (QCD). Therefore, please do not direct your IRA custodian to send a distribution to your DAF as that may be treated as taxable income to you.
To obtain information required to make a gift of stock or a wire transfer, answers to your questions about year-end giving, and to ensure your intended gift is properly credited, please contact ACF at finance@alaskacf.org or call an ACF team member at 907.334.6700.
