The Bettye Davis East High School STEM Scholarship was established to honor Sandra and Kenji Kusano. Like many others, Sandy and Kenji Kusano followed their dreams to Alaska. Sandy’s first job at ARCO turned into a 51-year career in the same building. Kenji started a Japanese restaurant, Yamato Ya, which they owned for 26 years. This scholarship honors their inspiring work ethic and dedication to providing opportunities for others.
Scholarship award will be $2,000.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current Bettye Davis East High School graduating senior
- Intending to pursue studies in a STEM field
Preferences:
- First Generation college student with well-rounded community involvement.
- Students who show academic progess with a GPA of at least 2.8.
Applicants Will be Asked to Provide:
- Personal Essay
- Transcripts
- Resume and/or summary of work experience, activities, personal interests, honors/awards, and volunteer service
- Verification of Enrollment in a college, university, or vocational school
- Cost of tuition/books, family contribution and statement of financial need
- Student Aid Report (SAR) – optional
IMPORTANT: Scholarship recipients must submit their student ID number and program information by June 30, 2024 to ACF through the online system before their award can be disbursed. Failure to do so will be an automatic forfeiture of the award unless student chooses an award deferment.
