Alaskans have a fierce love for this place we call home. Whether it’s because we have deep roots in this state, embraced caring communities, enjoyed tremendous opportunities or admire the spectacular beauty that surrounds us, we share a pride in Alaska.
The Alaska Community Foundation provides an opportunity for those Alaskans, like my wife and me, who want to give back a bit of what we have enjoyed. We are joining with thousands of other Alaskans to give to our community’s endowment.
ACF makes a special promise to our donors: we will work with you to ensure your values last far into the future. We will carefully manage your funds so that they will grow and generate earnings that will be used for the causes you believe in. And we will hire professional staff who know and love Alaska as much as you do in order to achieve the greatest impact.
We take the trust that donors place in us seriously. In 2014, donors gave $13.2 million in gifts to ACF, bringing the assets we manage on behalf of Alaskans to more than $80 million. These gifts, and our strategic management of funds, have enabled ACF to make more than $48 million in grants since we were created in 1995. Last year alone, we issued $3.5 million in grants.
This year marks an important transition for ACF. We say farewell to Candace Winkler, who has served as President/CEO for the past five years. Since joining ACF, Candace has led the organization through several statewide initiatives and projects, including providing administrative support of the popular “Pick.Click.Give.” charitable contribution program, partnering with the State of Alaska and the Alaska Children’s Trust to manage the Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program, and collaborating with statewide partners and the Anchorage Daily News to produce the “State of Intoxication” series. Assets at ACF doubled in size during her tenure, allowing ACF to make even greater impact in our state. While we are sad to see her leave us, we are grateful for her years of visionary leadership that have enabled ACF to better serve Alaskans.
Here at the Alaska Community Foundation, we are honored to be the stewards of your philanthropic goals. We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to make your dreams for a better Alaska come true.
Yours,
Alex Slivka
Chair, ACF Board of Directors

The Alaska Community Foundation’s investment goals are to preserve and enhance the real value of charitable assets over time and to provide for grantmaking in perpetuity. Because we believe grants for tomorrow are as important as grants made today our overriding investment objective for our endowed funds is to maintain purchasing power by maintaining a diverse portfolio and adhering to investment discipline. To maintain purchasing power over the long term without excessive risk, ACF’s investment goal is to return 8% on average.
