Dr. John Halligan Scholarship 2017 Deadline has passed

The Dr. John Halligan Scholarship is not currently accepting applications.

The 2017 Dr. John Halligan Scholarship will run September 6, 2017 – November 1, 2017. Applications must be submitted no later than 5 pm AKST.

Dr. John Halligan graduated from The United States Military Academy at West Point in 1985 and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences with an MD. After completing his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington, Dr. Halligan served in the US Army as a Radiation Oncologist until his retirement as a Colonel in 2008. After retiring from the military, Dr. Halligan fulfilled a decades long dream and moved to Alaska to become the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Providence Alaska Medical Center. He has since expanded state of the art cancer care in Alaska by opening Radiation Oncology Clinics in Soldotna, Juneau and the MatSu Valley so Alaskans could receive care closer to their homes.

The Dr. John Halligan Scholarship will provide a $2500 scholarship to an undergraduate student studying the health sciences in pursuit of a medical career, to further help improve health care in Alaska.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a graduate/in their senior year at an Alaskan high school
  • Applicant must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the health sciences at a University of Alaska campus
  • Applicant must be enrolled full-time at a University of Alaska campus for the upcoming academic year

  • Transcripts
  • Statement of Financial Need
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Proof of Application or Acceptance to post-secondary institution

IMPORTANT: Successful applicants must submit their student ID number and program information to ACF through the online system before their award can be disbursed. If we do not receive the above information by December 21, 2017, the scholarship may not be awarded. Please contact ACF if you cannot send in the information by this date.
