The Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program will be accepting applications from January 1 through February 28.
The Teen Suicide Prevention program seeks applications for projects that will directly enhance community based efforts to prevent teen suicide. Applications are accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit or equivalent organizations located in the state of Alaska. Equivalent organizations may include tribes, schools, churches, local government agencies and programs. Organizations throughout the state of Alaska are encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to projects that: (1) incorporate a strategy(ies) outlined in the Alaska State Suicide Prevention Plan FY 2012-2017, and (2) empower Alaskans to work together to promote community wellness. Strategies from the Alaska State Suicide Prevention Plan include:
- Alaskans accept responsibility for preventing suicide
- Alaskans effectively and appropriately respond to people at risk of suicide
- Alaskans communicate, cooperate, and coordinate suicide prevention efforts
- Alaskans have immediate access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services
- Support survivors in healing
Examples of potential projects include, but are not limited to:
- Event Based – supporting a community’s culture camp or local efforts to keep the school building open during summer break.
- Social Marketing – designing and implementing a social marketing campaign that educate community members of the signs of suicide and steps they can take to prevent it or advertising resources where to turn when feeling suicidal.
- Education – hosting educational sessions for community members on how to handle teen in crisis.
Applicants should demonstrate the organization and/or community contribution to the proposed project.
