The International Foundation of Experimental Economics is closing under its original plan to sunset after 25 years. To extend the mission of the Foundation, this fund was created at The Alaska Community Foundation to continue to promote human betterment through participatory workshop programs using experimental economics to improve the understanding of human exchange systems.

The International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) was founded in 1997 to support research and education in experimental economics. IFREE was the only foundation annually supporting research projects, educational seminars, and outreach workshops in experimental economics. In 2002, Founder Vernon L. Smith donated his Nobel Prize money to IFREE.
