ACF Mourns the Loss of Mike Burns

Dear Friends,

Many of you have already heard that Mike Burns, former Director of the Alaska Permanent Fund Division, passed away yesterday. We at The Alaska Community Foundation join many Alaskans and organizations in expressing our deep condolences to his family.

Our connection with Mike goes back nearly two decades. From 1997 to 2004, he served on The Alaska Community Foundation Board of Directors that included his tenure as the ACF Board Chair from 2002 until 2004. After stepping down from the ACF Board in 2005, he continued to serve as a member of the ACF Investment Committee until June 2015.

In his 2002 Board Chair letter, it is clear that Mike was committed to this state and our future.

“… [W]e are excited by the promise of the future. … We look forward to our continued growth, supported by so many of you, as we work to build a permanent charitable endowment for this great State.”

While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his legacy of leadership and stewardship on behalf of The Alaska Community Foundation. We are deeply indebted to Mike’s commitment to service and inspired by his commitment to the state of Alaska.

We join Mike’s many friends and colleagues in sending our love to his family. He will be deeply missed.

Susan
